This kit allows you to see what is directly behind the truck - it will even see the rear bumper and hitch. No monitor or mirror is included in this kit.
This camera can be connected to your factory Ford navigation or any aftermarket monitor with an RCA input. A Lockpick kit is required if connecting to your factory navigation
Your factory tailgate blue oval is held on with two sided tape, use a heat gun and the included fishing line to work the old emblem off the surface of the tailgate. On older models you will need to drill an access hole for the camera to pass through the surface of the tailgate. On the bottom of the tailgate there is a square water drain that can be used to pass camera harness through. Most 2006 and newer models may already have the required holes so no drilling would be required in this case.
The wire harness has a single point weather resistant connection that connects to the camera near the spare tire under the truck - allows for easy tailgate removal! The harness is 22' long so all connections can be made inside the cab.
This for a 1999 F-350 Crew Cab with 8ft bed with a 2008 Super Duty tailgate with step. I had to make a template, because the camera hole nor the screw holes were present yet in the tailgate for this model. Installation after that was easy. Connected it to a Kenwood double din unit and connected power wire @ drivers side backup lamp and grounded. It works & looks like OEM.
I installed the decal over the Ford emblem.
This was for a 2012 Ford F-250, Crew Cab, short box. The install was very straight forward, but I’m a tradesman. I followed the outside of the frame, on the passenger side. There is a factory grommet in the floor, behind the front passenger seat that I used. Then I ran through the cable tray, which is inside the door sill. The cables reached, but just barely. Would have been too short if I had the 8 ft box on my Crew Cab truck. I connected to an after market Sony double din head unit. Worked first try. I connected the red and black power wires to the passenger side backup light. Only needed the yellow component plug, into the head unit.
I have installed a lot of these cameras and they are the best! I have not had any problems with them at all. On some trucks you do need an extra yellow RCA cable because the truck is too long. They do include a RCA connector for you, so you don't need that, just the RCA! I noticed they stopped including the template to cut out the holes in the tailgates that don't have the holes already. This might be a small issue for someone who has never installed one before. Other than that, I have always had great service from these guys and will continue to purchase from them!
